Helena Brown attended Oxford High School and
subsequently won a scholarship to study music at Dartington College of
Arts. She then studied at the Royal College of Music where her professor
was Hubert Dawkes. After leaving college, she worked for the Royal
Ballet for some years. Helena now combines performing with teaching
harpsichord at Brunel University and St Paul's Girls School. She also
runs weekly classes at the Adult Education Centre in Hounslow, both for
Baroque Chamber Music and for Harpsichord playing. Playing chamber music
is a great source of enjoyment for Helena, and she is the harpsichord
player for Musica Dolce, the Telemann Players, For Two to Play with
fellow keyboard player Penelope Cave, and Duo Pastorale with recorder
player Michael Keen. This duo has recently issued a CD of Italian and
German baroque music. Helena also works with larger-scale ensembles: the
Academy of St Martin-in-the-Fields, the City of London Sinfonia and the
English Chamber Orchestra. Helena is Musical Director for the Isleworth
Actors' Company and with them she has performed the Canterbury Tales,
Arabian Nights and Twelfth Night.
