''Playford Dance Workshop' : With Barbara Dunn and friends (Event 8)

Barbara Dunn, with friends providing live music, will teach and call some historic English dances- no experience necessary. Suitable for the whole family, couples, singles, anyone who wants to have a go. Please do avoid wearing high heeled shoes and dress comfortably. Henry Playford published his famous book The Dancing Master in 1651 but continued to issues instalments and updates for a very long time.

Sorry, no toilets on site. Non-alcoholic drinks only at interval- but two pubs are within a minute’s walk. Parking at St. Martin’s Gate- walk down Mealcheapen St.

Barbara Dunn has been calling dances for over 20 years. It all started during her first post as a primary school teacher, where she taught folk dancing; subsequently, during a career break, she began to play for folk dancing in a dance band, playing flute and piccolo.

One thing led to another so that gradually, she took on the role of caller for several bands, firstly in Berkshire and more recently in Worcestershire. She has always been passionate about Playford dancing, and as well as playing recorders now for Stratford Renaissance Dancers, she includes 17th Century dances in her calling repertoire.
