Penelope Cave and
Helena Brown, square piano |
 |
Piano duets from the turn
of the century by Haydn, Burney, Mozart and others, performed on
an original Broadwood square piano of 1795. This specially
created programme will also include pieces from Jane Austen’s
own books in the library at Chawton, that she played with her
sister, Cassandra.
|
The music is interspersed with entertaining,
contemporary readings, chosen from diaries, letters, novels and poetry.
Penelope Cave and Helena Brown are specialist performers of
early-keyboards and have recently given recitals to full-capacity
audiences at the London Handel House, National Trust’s Hatchlands Park
and Riverside Barn, Walton-on-Thames. They finished last year’s
Winchester Early Music Series with a celebration of Mozart’s extensive
repertoire for four-hand piano music, and a recording should soon be
available.
