About Parthenia

Parthenia (Emily Baines (recorders), Kirra Thomas (baroque violin), Natasha Kraemer (baroque cello), and Bridget Cunningham (harpsichord)

Formed from some of the finest young performers in the English early music scene, Parthenia is fast establishing itself as an energetic and exuberant force in historically informed performance.

The members of Parthenia already all have established careers in period performance throughout Europe; performing, touring and recording with such ensembles as Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, The English Concert, The Sixteen, Gabrieli Consort, The Kings Consort, and The Academy of Ancient Music.

They perform on period instruments, with original editions of music; bringing lively and historically informed interpretations to their performances.  Parthenia make their Winchester Early Music Series debut this December with Musick’s Monument, a programme of chamber and solo works exploring the rich musical outpouring in London in the eras surrounding Cromwell & the Reformation.

The group takes its name from Parthenia or The Maydenhead , a 17th century  collection of works written by English composers specifically for women to perform on the virginal
